Add your favorite JW prayer cliche'
by King Solomon inyou know what i'm talking about: the trite, often-repeated phrases that convey the person offering the prayer has drawn a mental blank, and utters these words while their brain desperately searches for the next cliche', so they can conclude the ritual with the required tag, "in jesus' name we pray".... (is that like the postage stamp?).
ok, i'll kick this one off, and take the most obvious:.
"forgive us where we fall short....".

No more blood card
by lostinthought inwhat a day!
first of all one of my electronic devises broke so the store said they would replace it i just needed to show id, i removed my license from my wallet and saw my blood card staring me in the face i couldn't stand looking at it so i took it and crumpled it up and threw it away, upon leaving the store i had a car accident it the parking lot, nobody was terribly injured but it was my fault so i feel bad...but i also feel elated that i tore up the card, what if i had a really bad accident and i needed blood?
what could have happened to me?

A few years ago I had surgery that potentially could have resulted in a huge loss of blood.
While filling out my paperwork I stated that I had no religious affiliation.
YAY for me! Very freeing!

Leaving Jehovah's Witnesses is NOT the same as the doctrines leaving you
by Terry inif you grow up speaking english and you move to mexico you don't automatically speak spanish, know customs, understand currency, possess skills.
for self-support or have any special insight into latino mindset.. .
why would you expect leaving jehovah's witnesses would leave you any less ill-equipped to navigate the real world?.

The realization that all of it was for nothing is difficult to come to grips with.

How do you work through the Anger
by jworld inhow do you deal with the anger when your parents stop talking to you?
my partner says i should continue to confront them but it builds so much anger in me and i sometimes i think i should just let it go and bring balance back to my own life.
it's sort of sureal to mourn your parents while they are still alive.

They do love you. But they are being controlled by the cult mind at this time. The book Combatting Cult Mind Control helped me understand the real effect the cult has had on my family. It is a great book to help you depersonalize their response. It can help you find ways to interact with them also.
00DAD - That is an excellent book!

I would do some reading on toxic parental relationships. That is the worst form of betrayal. So sorry this has happened. I would not continue to approach my parents only to be rejected. That is very painful.
Others will chime in with help soon.

Awkward, but kinda funny encounter with JWs today
by hemp lover ini live in a majority-minority neighborhood, so i get the double witness whammy of my street being worked by both spanish- and english-speaking congregations.
jws come to my door about four times a year, but i stopped answering years ago.
what's interesting is that about two years ago, they stopped knocking on my door or ringing the doorbell.

hemp lover,
What you said to them was brilliant. Sure way to stir up that cognitive dissonance.
I totally get where you're at on the physical reaction to them. I have to resist the very strong urge to strangle them silly...lol.
Gotta read the responses on this thread a bit later.

We couldn't fade either. Too stressful, too much work. Your wife standing by you is the biggest . Good luck!

July 15th WT - WT Society Promotes " Freedom " by using Fear & Guilt
by flipper inof course, freedom means a lot of different things to many different people.
however- to the wt society it means controlling it's jw members through fear and guilt to promote a " conditional " freedom - which turns out to not be freedom at all - just a manipulated socially restricted condition in which jehovah's witnesses are caged animals waiting for the next bit of " spiritual " food to be thrown to them by wt articles like this.. at the start of this article on pg.
7 in paragraph 1 it states that due to lawlessness, none of us have freedom to roam around at night, there are alarms, security systems - so the wt society infers we are all living in fear.

Several years ago there was an insert in the KM that scheduled out the publishers week. There were a couple of slots that scheduled free time/time off.
Anybody remember that? We were like WTF?

They Don't Know dubs
by Farkel init's interesting how dubs are portrayed in tv shows.
what's interesting is how little the people who write those scripts know about the religion.
i'll give two examples and then solicit others you folks may recall.. the first example comes from the pilot episode of the tv series "lie to me.

I saw the SUV episode. My dad txtd me and was like, "uh, jws don't bail people out of jail, lol."
There was one episode of The Practise that had a very accurate portrayal of JWs. Lisa G Hamilton's character, Rebecca, had been in an accident and was in a coma. She needed a blood transfusion. The firm was going to take over her care but her mother stepped into the picture and started insisting that she could not be given a blood transfusion because she was a JW. Dylan McDermott's character, Bobby, fought to have the transfusion court ordered. He argued that Rebecca wasn't a Jehovah's Witness. And was emphatic he could prove it because none of her co-workers ever heard her mention going to meetings (she often worked late). She also celebrated holidays and birthdays, etc.
It was very well written. We speculated that someone on the writing team was a JW or exJW.
